The Secret to Cohesive Colour Schemes

The Secret to Cohesive Colour Schemes

By Erica Schoonmaker

Try this method of tinting your colour schemes to craft a perfectly harmonious colour palette for your projects.

First, pick a bunch of colours for your colour palette (i.e. purple, blue, etc). Then select an overall colour (let’s say orange) that you want to tint everything towards.

Next, overlay the “overall colour” (or soft light, or whatever blending mode depending on if you want darker or lighter colours) and play with the opacity till you get something you can work with.

Here we have  #FF9C00 set to Overlay and opacity set to 25% over the original choices to get this scheme.

Now it’s your turn to experiment using this method.
