What Makes a Great Facebook Cover Photo
Facebook cover photos are all about first impressions. The first thing prospective followers see when they visit your Facebook business page is your cover photo. So will they be impressed? They won’t be if your cover photo is low quality, random or out-of-date! Remember, you’ll never get a second chance to make a first impression!
So here are 3 things to consider for a great looking Facebook cover photo.
1. High quality
Whether you use a photograph or an image you created, your cover photo needs to be high quality.
You can start by using an image that’s the right size — 851 pixels by 315 pixels. If you upload an image that’s smaller than these dimensions, Facebook will expand it and the results are horrible!
The best way to produce a great cover photo is to just use your camera and take a photo of your business or your employees. Also make sure your logo is prominent in the image. If you don’t have a location or employees, then use a high-quality background with some text and your logo layered on top.
There are some great tools out there to create cover photos for those of who are “graphically challenged”. You can also find tons of sites that make generic cover photos for you — but they’ll typically add THEIR branding to it — which is not a great look for your business.
2. Representative of your brand
Remember, your cover photo is your number one branding opportunity on your timeline. So it only makes good business sense for the cover to include images and text about YOUR brand.
3. Current
Many page owners load a cover photo and then never change it. This doesn’t make sense and is a poor use of the space.
When you’re driving on the highway, do you notice how often billboards get changed? Why? Because our minds tend to tune out images that we’ve seen over and over. The same thing applies to cover photos on Facebook. So go ahead and change your cover photo as often as you like.
Follow these 3 simple rules and you’re all set for success!
